I grew up on Army bases where being gay was illegal. When I walked into the world of work, I had no idea what to do. I knew I was different, but I was also operating under the impression that being gay was not ok. I hid who I was with everyone at work.

Little did I realize I was non-binary, too. Today I speak about that experience of coming out in a non-accepting culture, and the work we need to do in the workplace to create safe places where people can belong in corporate America.

One example? Pronouns. And no, they're not preferred. Here are a few ways to practice new pronouns and get them right.
